The sounds are dramatic, and the Celtic theme serious, but what would you expect from a game based on the norse version of armageddon?
Which actually makes it a little gloomy, especially once you find out, as we did, that the three bonus features describe the battle of three gods who, ultimately, lose rather than win their battles.

So is this all doom and gloom?
Look, we really wanted to love the Ragnarök video slot. It’s a great theme, with lots of bonus features, and cool graphics and sounds.
But ultimately, much like the doomed gods, you’ll find yourself not winning much, or losing much. The point here, is survival.
Survival till you collect enough runes to unlock all three of the big bonus features. There are three levels in total, and yes it took us close to 2 hours of playtime to unlock all.
During that time our biggest win of the game was about 80 times our bet. And to be honest, that was most certainly the rarity.
It should be noted that the more levels you unlock, the better the return to player rate of this machine:
- Level One – 94.50%
- Level Two – 95.28%
- Level Three – 96.52%
So you basically need good patience (and a healthy budget) to get to level 3, all for the same RTP you can find in their better Gods of Giza slot, straight away.
Too much commitment needed to play the Ragnarök mobile slot
If Genesis Gaming would have removed the rune feature completely, and just allowed you to pick from 3 bonus games, the Ragnarök slot game would have been fun.
Perhaps not 4 or 5 stars fun, but certainly an acceptable beautiful game with enough action to keep you entertained for a while.
But it’s such hard work getting there, and the rewards for your commitment aren’t decent enough to warrant the time spent.
Thats said, it does keep your wallet fairly steady and once you move up to the third level, there’s some really lively action and wins to be had. Still, we’d say that only hardcore fans of Norse Mythology will make it through this battle alive.
For the rest of us with less patience, there’s always the superior Thunderstruck 2 mobile slot.

Wilds: The hilt of a sword is the wild symbol and replaces all other symbols for a win, except scatter.
Rune Collection: After any spin, a red rune may show up on screen, which you'll start collecting on the right hand side of the reels.
The more you collect, the more bonus game features you'll unlock.
Scatters and Free Spins:
Yggdrasil, the tree of life, is the scatter symbol. Get three and you'll be taken to a second screen where you'll see three graves: that of Thor, Freyr and Odin.

The Thor feature is automatically unlocked and get's better as you unlock more bonus features. You'll get Freyr (second level) when you collect 15 runes, and Odin when you collect 30 (third level).
Level 1:
- Thor: The serpent Jörmungandr opens its gaping maw to swallow you whole, as you spin 10 free spins with a 2x multiplier. You can get lucky sometimes, but it's usually no more than about 10x your bet.
Level 2:
- Thor: This time round you get 15 free spins with a 3x multiplier. Here is where we got our big 80x our bet win.
- Freyr: Actually probably the one which gives you a better chance to walk away with at least 20 to 30 times your bet, this is a simple bonus as you choose which part of the Fire Giant's body you wish to attack. You'll get three attacks to get either instant credit or/and a multiplier of 5x.
Level 3:
- Thor: It might seem odd that you only now get 8 free spins with 3x multiplier, but you also get extra wilds added to the reels randomly, from 1 to 15 extra in fact.
- Freyr: You still get only 3 out of 5 possible choice on the fire giant, but the possible multipliers are now 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, or 10x. Much better.
- Odin: Fenrir the wolf is not less scary than the serpent, but much higher risk. Here you get 8 free spins, with special rune symbols. Once these show up on screen, you get to pick from one of three choices, giving you extra symbols or wild.
If we can be 100% honest, we only played the Odin feature a couple of times before we got exhausted from this game. So whilst we can see that there is potential for some decent wins if you pick some high value stacked symbols or wilds... mostly we found that last feature disappointing.
In the end, you could always depend on Thor to just get better and nastier.
Closing thoughts
The Ragnarok mobile slot is a great game... if you can get to the point where you've collected 30 runes and unlocked all 3 bonus levels.
Before that, it's merely mediocre, with some cool graphics. Question is, do you have the patience to find out?
If not, check out the little known NextGen slot Titan Storm. It's more 'he-man' than 'norse gods' but at least you might actually win a glorious battle or two fairly quickly here.
